MORNING MOOSE

This painting has been commissioned by an art collector. I like to take multiple pictures and work them together into a scene in Photoshop. I can start with as many as 20-30 different scenes and animal parts. We narrowed this down to about 6-8 in this scene.  Even the moose is from 2-3 photos.

This will be a 20x30 painting. I start by putting 2 coats of gesso on the front of watercolor board and one on the back (helps keep it flat)

I started by pouring a mixture of white and yellow mix and white and purple mix in the sky and mountain area. Turquoise to the lower mountains and hunter green and brown to the tree areas. I am not too concerned about control at this time Here I added more purples to the lower mountain area, grayed back the left trees and added more warm colors to the left trees. Poured colors for the basis of the rock area. Not happy with the water but I will re-work that Close up of the mountains. I have started working with gouache here using purples, ochre (not yellow ochre)  and white.
I love doing mountains with lots of color. I added a bank of fog with gouache at the base of the mountain using blues, purples and white and lots of water. I have started working on the trees on the left using more greens with purple and white. Still working on the shapes of the trees. I have also added trees in the bank of fog below the mountains Here I used more of the acrylic to pour the trees. Too much flash reflecting on the foreground, but can't help that with the acrylic. I also worked more on the stand of trees to the left.
Close up of trees: I use transparent airbrush acrylics. Comes with a pointed spout that makes it easy to control (sort of) I laid down a dark brown, burnt sienna and ochre. I drop white into bark and blend with the end of the brush. They are now set up to paint in more detail and add the green pine needles. Looking at the patch of green behind the trees I could see an inlet in the lake, so I painted it. Now I have worked the trees with gouache
Well the moose has finally arrived. Just blocked in with gouache at this point. Using more acrylics I poured more area for the rocks using black, blue, purple brown and white. Started painting rocks (with gouache) adding rocks to the water, working more on the moose and adding warmth to the left trees where the morning sun would touch them. a close up of the area I just worked. (btw, I changed part of the position of the moose, less back side)
Adding detail to the water working the rocks Filling out the detail on the moose's head
Working on the bark on the trees 99% done, now just at the studying and tweaking stage
